5. New Zealand Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training
Organisation Scholarship.

- The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the uptake of training specifically relevant to the transport and logistics industry up to Diploma level on the National Qualification Framework (ie at sub-degree level). The scholarship is designed for potential future leaders who have entered the logistics and transport industry who do not hold any formal industry specific academic qualifications.The scholarship is for $2,000.00.

ACHIEVEMENTS
1. The CILT Young Executive of the Year Award.

This award is made annually to the young person (under 35
years of age) who has demonstrated the highest potential
through their achievement in the supply chain management /
logistics / transport. The award will consist of a grant of up
to $4,000, to be used for attendance at an international supply
chain management/logistics/transport conference or event.
Awarded to Mr. Scott Bennett of Foodstuffs Palmerston North who started his working life as a storeman / driver, has progressed through the roles as diverse as a dispatcher, trainee airplane pilot and wharf supervisor to management, gaining the CILT Diploma in Logistics on the way. He manages a large distribution centre with an inventory of some $17 million. and manages over 140 full time staff.

Awarded to CCS Innovation in Logistics Ltd a relatively new company in Christchurch, which focuses on innovation in logistics . It assists medium to large transport and logistics companies to use GPS data to improve their performance monitoring, and develop improvement plans.

6. The Norman Spencer Memorial Award for Service to Transport and the Institute.
-
The Norman Spencer Memorial Medal was given by his family
to commemorate his life and work, especially in the Chartered
Institute of Transport in New Zealand, which he founded. it has
a dual focus, service to the industry and service to the
Institute. the award is made to recognise a person of the
highest calibre from within the transport and logistics
sectors. The person is to have made an outstanding contribution
over time to the sector as well as in a meaningful way to the
activities of the Institute.
Awarded to Mr. I Peter Carr who has a long history of both, and despite being officially retired is now involved in helping the Waikato and Bay of Plenty sections of the Institute. Peter started his working life as a humble seafarer and has been a stevedore, a manager of container operations and logistics operations as well. Always one to get involved in his industry, he has also been a member of many associations, including Port Employers, Harbour Board, Export Institute, Chamber of Commerce, an active yachtie, volunteer coastguard and even a course marshall in the Americas Cup.
